Happy Mother’s Day!
I am your biggest fan
I am your protector
I will always defend you
I will get angry
I will get frustrated
I will be proud of you
I will be your confidant
I will love you unconditionally because…
I am your mother.
Few words evoke the feeling of the word “Mom”! For most of us, it is a great joy to honor and remember our mothers. For some, maybe not so much. If you had the “perfect mom”—the one that kissed every boo-boo you had, cooked nothing but your favorite meals, whose life completely revolved around your every need—congrats! Or perhaps you’re still convinced you had the perfect mom, even if she meets only half of the criteria we’ve already mentioned… congrats!
Moms are pretty amazing people, and that’s the way God planned it. We know that all of us fail to meet up to expectations at times, but moms have the ability to believe in us, even when we find it hard to believe in ourselves. That’s part of our being made “in the image of God”.
There are two good ways to express your gratitude today. One is to say, “Thanks!” Tell Mom you love her and that you are moves by her generosity, steadfastness, and consistent acts of grace and love she’s shown you. The second way is to give thanks, and this is really a wonderful way of expressing your appreciation because it includes God in the picture. Thank Him for His love and provision by supplying a mom—perhaps even several mother figures in your life. He’s good that way—to bring people into our lives to fill gaps left by others.
A final way to capture the spirit of Mother’s Day is to be a blessing in someone else’s life. Look for someone to pass along the love shown to you! You won’t regret it, and perhaps they’ll be stirred to say and give thanks, too!
