“The world is changed by your example, not your opinion.” Paulo Coelho

As we watch the political battlefield unfold, most of us are listening for viewpoints that match our own thinking, or hope to be impressed by solutions that no one has uncovered yet. However, we know that what we’re hearing and seeing on TV spots are not necessarily accurate readings on what the candidate really thinks. The best way to judge is by actions, not words! For years the phrase that has ruffled feathers is, “do as I say, not as I do!”

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 (NIV)

I don’t know anybody that really works with. The great thing about being a follower of Jesus Christ is that foundation. He did it! He was the example that continues to inspire and set the pace for us even today. Peter observed Jesus first hand and says that Jesus gave us “an example, so that you might follow in His steps.” There isn’t a different standard for us than He was willing to take on himself. Loving, He’s been there. Caring, He’s been there. Suffering, He’s been there. Standing alone, He’s been there. Trusting God, He’s been there. But even more, Jesus empowers us to be able to live this life He calls us to!

Believe it or not, there is someone (maybe many) who is observing you and the example you set. You may be their encouragement or their excuse. We have the perfect example in Christ, and it’s not like trying to keep up with an older brother or sister who may be smarter, more talented, or gifted. Jesus is here to help you be all that He has planned for you to be!
