SWAG: Someone Who Admires God

On July 19th, we looked at the Kingdom of God that will never end, despite the challenges to Him and His authority that we seem to experience in this world. I want to point out afresh what a privilege it is to be a part of this Kingdom and to have the great honor of being invited to the table of our King!

David writes in perhaps the most famous of the Psalms (chapter 23) that “He prepares a table before me…” even in the presence of his enemies. This speaks to us of confidence and assurance of a God who is supremely absolute in His strength. He’s God — who is able to “meet all of my needs,” as Paul wrote in Philippians 4:19. We gain confidence too, that God has given us not just one example in His Word of His power, but hundreds of testimonies of flesh and blood people that dealt with life’s fears and tests and problems which we can identify with, even though many years have passed in time.

That’s the amazing thing about being part of an eternal Kingdom! It’s founded on Jesus Christ, who ‘was, is, and is to come.” He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End! So just imagine being invited to His table! Who are you and what have you done, that you should be invited?

A term that’s thrown around a lot today is swag. You’ve probably at least heard of it, but it refers to looks, style, attitude, having a “presence” — generally having to do with personal pride. But I read a church sign recently that caught my eye. It said, “SWAG — SOMEONE WHO ADMIRES GOD.”

This really defines the ultimate swag — someone who “sits at the King’s table” and yet knows that you’re only there because He love you and wants you to be there! Solomon wrote, “He calls me to His banqueting table and His banner over me is love.” That’s the attitude — the SWAG — we should have when we come into worship… with admiration, appreciation, and adoration of the Almighty Lord of all! We love you, Abba!
